Cloud Wars Heating Up

It looks like the Cloud Wars are starting to heat up. Mark Angelino was snatched up from SalesForce where he was serving as VP of Customer Success, he will be moving on to Hewlett-Packard. As HP is pursuing its own Cloud dreams it is prepping itself by hiring some of the best and most experienced in the industry. Mark Angelino will bring experience in a wealth of experience in SaaS to HP. His background at SalesForce includes management of their sales, call center and platform services. In his new role at HP Mark Angelino will rely heavily on MSP’s and other partners to leverage HP’s assets of servers, software, and storage in the Cloud War.

HP’s move only serves to bolster the argument that we’re moving towards a world of hybrid and private Clouds. A couple thoughts on all this;

  1. As more companies bolster their own Cloud capabilities I suspect that we’ll begin to see at least attempts at standardization of some sorts.
  2. The various SaaS applications that are being built will absolutely need to interact with other applications and databases. The strength of the Cloud to me is the promise of interoperability.
  3. Expect more poaching of top executives as the Cloud war heats up.
  4. Expect more buyouts of smaller Cloud Technology companies as the larger companies stock their technology arsenals.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re in a good ol’ fashioned Cloud Arms Race.

What do you think? Has the Cloud Wars begun or is this just a shot across the bow by HP?
