Friday Roundup: Pulse on the Cloud
The Cloud has awakened a sleeping giant named Microsoft. It seems lately that every day Microsoft’s name is popping up in Cloud Computing news. I think the key to this is Microsoft’s ability to leverage significant resources. Although Rackspace’s recent entry of OpenStack spices things up I still don’t think it can quite compete with Microsoft’s offerings.
DreamWorks in the Cloud? That’s right DreamWorks recently signed on to use Cloud Computing. Makes me wonder about the future of movies. How long will it be until movie theaters simply access the Cloud and can shift demand real time between movies to provide adequate seating?
For the time being you can use ZumoCast and stream your personal video collection right to your iPad instead.
The Google and L.A. debacle keeps growing bigger. Now we even have letters being leaked to the press over Google’s performance. My personal opinion? I agree with Techcrunch that whole ordeal is overblown, with the LAPD asking for background checks on every Google employee with access to Google Apps data things are bound to slow down.
For something to munch on over the weekend try the topic of Cloud Standards.
Do you think the Cloud should be standardized and secondly do you think it will be?
