Friday Roundup: Pulse on the Cloud
The biggest news of the Cloud this week by far was Intel’s acquisition of McAfee. For this week’s link roundup we’re going to provide you with some articles we found interesting and an interesting debate.
We’ll start with the debate;
ZDNet’s Dan Kuznetzky throws out the opinion that “Virtualization isn’t Cloud Computing“
Now on to the links!
Cloud Gaming continues to expand (look no further than FarmVille’s estimated 500,000 a day revenue figures). Estimates are putting Cloud gaming on track to bring in 1.5 billion a year by 2014. I think Cloud gaming could easily jump past this figure considering how viral new games are and the ability for people to play “anywhere” with their mobile device.
Are you on the list? Jeremy Geelan has compiled a list of the Top 250 Cloud Computing companies. I expect the companies on this list to shift and change pretty quickly. Considering that 150 companies made the list in January I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 500 company list by next August.
Curious about how Microsoft is planning to sync up devices in its Personal Cloud? There’s going to be a whole lot of syncing going on.
With all the Intel and McAfee news it was easy to miss that HP quietly purchased Fortify. HP news has largely been overshadowed by Mark Hurd’s departure but Fortify is going to do nothing but enhance HP’s security offerings.
Google TV has created a buzz already. Apparently it doesn’t have Hollywood scared. Personally? I think they should be sincerely frightened. Google, Facebook, and Apple have been in quite the battle recently. Apple TV already exists (it landed with a thud) but imagine how TV could change with an interactive experience? Viewers want on demand shows and movies and if Google can provide it they can increase their advertising revenue. Watching Facebook’s recent moves with Places and Marketplace I wonder if they’ll be quick to follow?
